What Is Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Therapy?
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) was developed in the 1960s and it has been ever-evolving from time to time and still on-going up to this date to ensure it’s best application for today’s context.
Applied Behavioral Analysis is a set of scientific based principles that are used to improve human learning and human behaviors. Some of the core ABA principles believe that:
- Any behavior or a skill can be learned and unlearned.
- Any behavior or a skill deficit can be changed or shaped.
ABA Therapy focuses on:
- Identifying problems with the child’s behaviors and/or learning skills.
- Analyzing the core reasons that cause these behaviors and/or learning skills issues.
- Applying individualized teaching strategies to facilitate the child’s understanding until mastering the desired behavior and/or skill.
- Constant troubleshooting and flexible adjustments throughout the teaching process according to the child’s need until the desired behaviors and/or learning skills are learned successfully.
