Common Misconception About Autism.
- Autism is caused by vaccines.
- Autism is caused by bad parenting.
- All children with autism prefer to be left alone.
- All children with autism don't talk much.
- All children with Autism are geniuses.
- All children with Autism are aggressive.
- All children can grow out of autism without needing any interventions.
The truth is –
- Autism is borned with.
- ASD is a spectrum disorder, so there are children with ASD that are very friendly, sociable, talkative, calm and compliant too, which make it harder for some parents to realize and overlook the other traits of Autism.
- Children with ASD may excel in a specific subject greater than others, not because they are geniuses, but it is usually due to their highly fixated and obsessed interest in that subject, which is a common trait of autism, hence the intrinsic motivation to master the skills of their interest faster than others. However, not all children with ASD have functional obsessions that make them look like a genius in the eyes of others.
- Autism cannot be cured, but the traits can be improved until indistinguishable.
- Early intervention is extremely crucial to help the child close the developmental gaps between the child and other peers of same age progressively; whereas there are higher chances that the developmental gap will be greater than peers of same age if intervention is delayed due to a longer period of ineffective learning before intervention.
